Olin jo aiemmin päättänyt, etten enää viitsi ruveta lukemaan kouluromanssi-aiheisia mangasarjoja, sillä ne nyt vaan eivät oikeen kosketa kun on jo tällainen reilusti parikymppinen "vanhus". Vaan kuinkas kävikään, kirjastossa oli nimittäin hyllyssä jokin uuden näköinen kouluromanssimanga, ja tempaisin sen sittenkin mukaani. Enhän hävinnytkään mitään, sillä kirjastosta lainaaminen on täällä Melbournessakin ilmaista :)
I had already decided not to read anymore of the school romance genre manga, since they don't really concern me anymore, now that I'm a 20+ old fart. But then I saw a new-looking school romance manga in the library and could not resist borrowing it. What did I have to lose after all, since it doesn't cost anything to borrow a book?

Sarja on nimeltään "The Devil and her Love Song" (Akuma to Love Song). Nimi kuulostaa minusta kankealta eikä luvannut hyvää, mutta ainakin ykkösosa oli suht positiivinen yllätys. Toki tämä on ihan peruskamaa genressään. Pääosassa kiusattu, hieman muista poikkeava tyttö, joka herättää parin pojan huomion ja sitten luultavasti myöhemmissä osissa rupeaa soutamaan ja huopaamaan noiden kahden välillä. Tuttu juttu! Mutta tätä jaksoi lukea, sillä päähenkilö ei ole ainakaan mikään tosi kliseisen oloinen peruskiltti punastelija, vaan pikemminkin (ainakin "pinnalta") bad-ass angstinen tapaus joka puhuu suoraan mitä sylki suuhun tuo. Ihan hauska käänne ainakin verrattuna niihin kouluromanssisarjoihin, mitä olen tähän mennessä lukenut.
The series is called "The Devil and her Love Song" (Akuma to Love Song). The title doesn't sound too promising to me, but at least the first part was a positive surprise. Of course the plot is very well used; the main character is a "not-your-usual schoolgirl" who captures the attention of two guys and probably ends up in a dilemma between the two in the later parts. However, the main character is delightfully unique, since she's not a blushing "nice girl" but instead a (at least seemingly) bad ass angst teenager who speaks her mind without hesitation. Nice change at least comparing to the other school series I've read.
Muut ykkösosassa esiintyneet hahmot eivät sen sijaan ole kummemmin maininnan arvoisia, ja juonessa ei ole vielä tapahtunut mitään todella yllättävää, mutta vaikuttaa kuitenkin ihan viihdyttävältä sarjalta jos kouluromantiikasta ja shoujosta tykkää. Taidekin on melko miellyttävää ja uskonnollisuus/katolisuusteema päähenkilön ympärillä (nimi on Maria, kaulassa ristikaulakoru, yms.) tuo oman vivahteensa. Ja tuo hahmo sopii niin hyvin goottilolitavaatteisiin, joissa hän esiintyy jaksojen välissä olevissa taidekuvissa!
The other characters in the first part, on the other hand, are nothing too interesting to talk about and nothing too surprising happened in the first part but it still seems like an OK series to read if you like shoujo and school romance. The art is pretty nice too, with the catholic religion theme and gothic lolita clothing in art pictures in between the chapters.
